International multimodal transport in China

In recent years, in order to meet the needs of the development of China's foreign trade and transportation, China has begun to adopt international multimodal transport in some countries and regions. At present, the international multimodal transport routes that China has carried out mainly include the transport routes from the mainland of China to and from the mainland of Japan, the United States, Africa, Western Europe and Australia, as well as the Siberian land bridge transport lines from Mongolia or the former Soviet Union to Iran and to the western and Northern European countries. Among them, the container transportation business of Siberian continental bridge has developed rapidly, which is maintained at about 10000 TEUs every year. In China, transrail is mainly used to handle the transportation of Siberian land bridge. The specific transportation routes are shown in Figure 8.

In addition to the above-mentioned transport routes, new intermodal routes are developing, including the world-famous new Eurasia bridge.

On September 12, 1990, the second land bridge connecting Asia and Europe was officially opened with the connection of Lanzhou Xinjiang Railway with dantuxi railway in Kazakhstan. The new Eurasian Continental Bridge starts from Lianyungang, China in the East and Rotterdam in the west, passing through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands, with a total length of 10900km. The land bridge provides a convenient international channel for Asia and Europe to carry out international multimodal transport. From the Far East to Western Europe, the transportation distance via the new Eurasian Continental Bridge is 8000km shorter than that through the Suez Canal, and 11000km shorter than that through the Panama Canal. From the Far East to Central Asia and the middle and Near East, the transportation distance via the new Eurasian Continental Bridge is 2700km-3300km shorter than that via the Siberian continental bridge. The opening of the land bridge transportation line will help to alleviate the shortage of transport capacity of the Siberian land bridge.

The new Eurasian Continental Bridge passes through Longhai and Lanxin railway lines in China, with a total length of 4131km. It is connected with Beijing Shanghai, Jingguang, Jiaoliu, Baocheng, Baolan and other important railway lines in Xuzhou, Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Baoji and Lanzhou, respectively, and has a broad hinterland (as shown in the figure). The new Eurasian Continental Bridge was officially put into operation in 1993. At this point, the goods transported from Asia Pacific region to Europe, middle and Near East can be transported by sea to Shangqiao, Lianyungang, China. After leaving the Alataw pass in Western China, they will enter druzheba, the border station in Kazakhstan, and be transported by CIS railway
